BOUTIQUE communications consultancy, Perceptive Partners Communications, is to provide pro-bono PR and social media support to the charity event, Byte Night, which raises money on behalf Action for Children to prevent youth homelessness.

Glasgow-based Perceptive is providing support to Byte Night for the third consecutive year, including the launch of this year’s Byte Night Scotland on Thurs 2 May at Tech Cube, Summerhall, Edinburgh (6.30-8pm).

Byte Night is the IT industry’s annual sleep out in support of Action for Children.

Each year, hundreds of individuals and teams from across the technology and business community spend a night exposed to the elements in a bid to raise sponsorship and awareness of Action for Children’s work to help prevent youth homelessness.

The leading children’s charity runs seven homelessness services across Scotland – from residential accommodation for young people who have nowhere else to go, to early intervention and housing support programmes that ensure young people are given the support they need before it’s too late.

The unique fundraiser began 16 years ago when 30 individuals from the IT industry slept out and raised £35,000. Since then Byte Night has grown, with over 1,000 sleepers taking part at seven locations across the UK.

An amazing £5.2 million has been raised since the event launched in 1998.

This year, Byte Night Scotland will take place on Friday 4 October at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh.

Julie Moulsdale, managing director of Perceptive Partners Communications, commented: “Specialising the technology and with many tech clients, we are very well placed to support Byte Night.

“Before working on this, we had no idea that around 100,000 young people are homeless every year. This is a massive problem not just for these vulnerable individuals but much more widely.

“The stories from the people whose lives have been turned around by Byte Night are truly amazing, so we are lucky to work on an initiative that makes such a difference.”

Grant McFarlane, fundraising manager at Action for Children Scotland, said: “We really value the support of Perceptive Partners Communications and are glad to have them on board for another year.

“Byte Night was started by a group of IT professionals 16 years ago and is now the industry’s biggest fundraiser. The team at Perceptive know the sector inside out and are perfectly placed to help us continue to grow the event and raise vital funds in aid of homeless young people.

“The support we get from Perceptive is fantastic and they really know their stuff.  It’s great to have this support to really drive things forward.”
