Media Release: Big Bus Tours goes mobile

IN recent months, Big Bus have been looking at the opportunities to engage with people using smartphones and mobile devices and are pleased to announce the launch of their mobile ticketing system.

As a market leading business, Big Bus Tours continues to look for new innovations and embraces new technologies in order to ensure they stay ahead of the competition and offer customers an unrivalled experience.

Andy McIntyre from Big Bus states: “Currently about 25 per cent of people accessing the Big Bus Tours’ website do so using a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, and this proportion is likely to increase rapidly in the coming years. We identified the limitation posed by requiring customers to print their e-tickets, so a mobile ticketing solution has been developed, which enables customers to receive their tickets directly to their phones.”

The system uses a QR code barcode, capable of encoding multiple tickets within one code and has a live integration with Big Bus’ ECR ticketing system. It promises to not only make life easier for on ticketing staff, but essentially benefits the tourist audience, who may not have access to a printer.

Andy from Big Bus continues: “Following a successful launch in London in March, our London bus tour customers have been enjoying the hassle-free nature of the new ticketing system. We are really excited by the reaction we’ve had already. The customers are really pleased with the convenient, intuitive system.”

Big Bus Tours plans to roll out mobile ticketing in the U.S in summer 2013. The system will be introduced to other cities later this year.

About Big Bus Tours

Big Bus Tours is the largest operator of open-top sightseeing tours in the world, providing sightseeing tours in thirteen cities across three continents.

Big Bus Tours was formed by the merger of two established sightseeing tour businesses. The Big Bus Company Ltd – based in London, and Les Cars Rouges – based in Paris. The two businesses, each with over 20 years of successful tour experience, decided to combine their expertise, creating Big Bus Tours in May 2011.

Big Bus Tours’ sightseeing formula has been designed to provide a flexible approach to city discovery. Each open-top bus tour provides a hop-on, hop-off facility at a variety of interesting locations and, wherever possible, Big Bus Tours looks to enhance the visitor sightseeing experience by providing complementary experiences.
