MASTER chef and artist, Domenico Crolla, proprietor of Bella Napoli in Shawlands on the southside of Glasgow, has unveiled his latest pizza art creation: a depiction of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous Mona Lisa, in mozzarella.
Domenico said: “Every so often, another Mona Lisa is discovered to great acclaim. However, whilst these discoveries transpire to be alternative versions of the portrait undertaken by Leonardo himself, I can confirm that the artist behind this latest ‘cheesy’ portrait is none other that myself.
“Who knows, perhaps the secret behind Mona Lisa’s famous enigmatic smile is that she was licking her lips at the thought of a delicious margherita pizza?”
Inspired by Andy Warhol’s monochrome printing technique, Domenico Crolla’s utterly unique pizza art creations has seen him depict a series of celebrity portraits on pizza toppings – including The Pope, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and singer Rihanna.
Demand for his pizza art has been such that plans are now in place for his pizza portraits to be depicted across a range of products, from t-shirts and aprons to mugs and mouse mats.
