THE charity for Scots in London, ScotsCare, has announced the winner of a poll to find out who is ‘Scotland’s Greatest Football Manager’. The charity asked its London supporters to vote via their Facebook page.
In light of the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the current English Premiership season and the fact that he has been replaced by another Scot, David Moyes, the charity asked its supporters for their top Scot manager.
Other names on the list included another legendary Manchester United manager, Sir Matt Busby, plus Liverpool great Bill Shankly, and Jock Stein, who led Celtic to become the first British team to win the European Cup in 1967.
Sir Alex Fergusson gained 52 per cent of the vote, followed by Jock Stein in second with 28 per cent and Bill Shankly in third with eight per cent. There was also an honorable mention for George Graham.
A spokesperson said: “Although we may not have been producing the players that we perhaps did in the past, we have continued to produce world class managers and in Sir Alex, perhaps the greatest manager of all time.”
