Media Release: PEEK feeling peckish

PEEK (Possibilities East End Kids) an East End-based charity who works with local children from the east and north of Glasgow celebrated a national event ‘British Sandwich Week’ last week.

British Sandwich Week takes place between 12-19th May 2013 and it is a great opportunity to celebrate the one of our best-loved fast foods – the British sandwich. PEEK began celebrating this event in May 2012 and is delighted to be marking the occasion again this year.

PEEK’s play rangers went out every day last week with boxes filled with a variety of different breads and yummy ingredients for the local children who attend PEEK’s play and fun club sessions to create their very own wonderful and wacky sandwiches.  Even though the weather has been up and down the staff and children did not let this bother them, and bundled into local churches and residential closes to stop their sandwiches getting soggy.

This year, Warburtons kindly donated over 70 loaves of bread ranging from 50/50 bread, fruit loaves, thick and thin bread and AIC (Allied International Credit ) donated sandwich fillers as well as their time by coming out on site to help children and staff celebrate.

Ashliegh, senior play ranger, said: “It’s was the week to celebrate sandwiches with local children, they have been making their very own sandwich creations from ham to tuna mayo.”
