The Vikings are Back! Right Douglas McCloskey

THE Glasgow Vikings are back at Wiston Lodge’s Great Outdoor Spectacular on Saturday 22nd of June 2013 for one day only, 10am – 6pm.

Watch them do battle on the lawns of the Lodge, see how they lived and ‘have a go’ at archery with traditional bows and hunting targets.

Thorgunna on behalf of the Jarl (chief) Eric the Tight, said: “The Vikings are coming to Wiston Lodge and they are all waiting to show you how the Vikings lived and fought.

“We are delighted to be back at this amazing venue, we love the unique personal and development learning experiences it offers.

“So, come and meet Inar and the rest in their encampment and enjoy all the fantastic activities on all day at the Great Outdoors Spectacular.”

The Great Outdoor Spectacular aims to build on the success of the last two years with even more fun for all the family.

Apart from the fearsome Vikings, there will be lots of musical events to suit all ages throughout the day, living history and traditional craft demonstrations, pony rides and birds of prey.

For the younger ones, there will be lots of great activities in the Kids zone including storytelling.

The adventurous can have a go at climbing, canoeing and bushcraft in the Tipi Camp where you can discover the mysteries of friction fire lighting, den-building or environmental art.

In the arena, watch sheep dog Sam herding his flock, the Moffat Mountain Rescue Team demonstrate recovering a casualty, the Vikings in battle or take part with Combat Cassie in her fitness regime.

For the more musical, join in a huge drum circle where everyone gets the chance to beat out a tune. For the more pensive, get away from the hubbub and come to a stimulating debate on ‘The Common Wheel’ with Robin McAlpine and Dr. Janet Moxley chaired by our patron, Dennis Canavan.

Great homemade food will be available all day at reasonable prices.

If that’s not enough, then have a break or join in the mega rounders game before attending the evening activities at the Ceildh and concert with some of our best local musicians, starting at 7pm.

KIDS GO FREE (u16’s) but bring an adult along for £8 Day Events /Ceildh or £15 for both, concessions available.
