STAFF at the historic Royal Scots Club in Edinburgh have uncovered rarely-seen photographs of the building’s meeting rooms as they looked in 1919.
The building formerly housed in temporary huts in St Andrew Square after the First World War can be seen in the photographs, with turn of the century flipcharts and desks.
The renovation of an additionalroom for the business and accommodation facility, happening as the pictures were rediscovered, is part of an ongoing programme to modernise the business drop-in and meetings facilities.
The difference between a venue with free wifi and modern rooms and the club as it was in 1919 is underlined by the photographs released this week.
Adrian Hayes, general manager, comments: “The more we bring the Royal Scots Club into the modern meetings world, the broader the scope of visitor. It was only recently we updated our meetings first aid kit to include connectivity, phone chargers and USB sticks, and here we are looking at an old flipchart! Free wifi and an IT specialist on hand is a far cry from those original days.”
Yves le Marchand, managing director of Experience Scotland, which works with the Royal Scots Club, comments: “The club is extremely popular with our French and Belgian visitors because of the connections to war and military history.
“These photographs are an example of the character and personality of the Royal Scots Club that make it both unique and special and is why we welcome thousands of visitors each year from these countries.”
