Media Release: Feeding time for p-p-p-peckish penguins

SAA Penguin 800x450

THE public are getting their first opportunity to get up close and p-p-p-personal with Andy, Judy, Kim and Shirley, the four Humboldt penguins at St Andrews Aquarium in Fife on Saturday when it launches its penguin feeding experience this weekend.

Visitors will be able to feed the peckish penguins their favourite food of sprat every day throughout the school holidays by booking their experience online via the Aquarium website.

The experiences also include a private briefing on working with the penguins and the opportunity to prepare their food before stepping into their enclosure where they can get up close with the Humboldts.

Since arriving in May, the waddle of four female penguins have been very popular with visitors to the Aquarium. Their enclosure features a viewing platform where you can watch the penguins swimming underwater, as well as underwater viewing windows.

Andrew Whiston, displays manager at St Andrews Aquarium, commented: “Both visitors and staff here at the Aquarium are really excited about launching the penguin feeding experiences on Saturday.

“We have had a lot of requests to feed the penguins but we wanted to wait until the waddle were 100 per cent settled in their new enclosure before we could begin introducing them to the public.

“All four Humboldt penguins have such different personalities, it will be fun for visitors to get up close and personal with them in their enclosure during feeding time.”
