Media Release: ThinJack director sees support in action during Angolan visit

THE director of an Aberdeenshire-based oil services firm has visited a school in Angola to see how charitable support is being used to change the lives of local children.

ThinJack Ltd – which is based at Westhill – has been supporting an innovative project to provide education to some of Angola’s poorest children and students at a school in Luanda. The school, named, A Colina Do Saber, was established in 2007 by local man, Kisuka Baltazar, who is gradually funding improvements using significant contributions from his own salary and a small number of donations from oil and gas companies working in Angola, including ThinJack Ltd.

As well as sending regular consignments of materials to the school and rallying support among fellow companies, ThinJack Ltd also made a financial donation which has helped construct a classroom block and company director, Guy Bromby, was able to visit the school to meetstudents and teachers during a recent trip to Angola.

ThinJack Ltd director, Guy Bromby, said: “We have been involved with this project since 2010, and it is great to see the warmth and enthusiasm the pupils gain from working with Sr. Baltazar and his colleagues.

“The next priority for the school is the securing of a cabled power source which will be backed up by new generators.

“With 20 classrooms on site, there is also a need for more blackboards, or blackboard paint, and the teachers need Portuguese textbooks and workbooks for all subjects.

“In addition, critically and immediately we need a secure place, in central Luanda, where we can drop off school supplies and this might be a hotel, shop or other business.”

Guy added: “Hopefully, we can be involved in turning some of the items on the wish list into reality, and we would love to hear from any other businesses who think they could help with this worthwhile project.”
