Media Release: Horizon tenant’s conference

Tenant Conference

HORIZON Housing Association was delighted to welcome around 40 tenants to a Tenants’ Conference on 12th September 2013.

The theme was ‘Horizon – past and present’, as we celebrated 25 years of Horizon history, in traditional manner with balloons and birthday cake.

Tenants and owners travelled from as far afield as Fife and Ardrossan to attend the conference which was held in Strathclyde Hilton Hotel, Bellshill.

The day was planned as a fun and informative event, giving delegates the opportunity to hear from speakers about current issues such as welfare reform and community safety, whilst meeting staff and discussing the issues that affect them.

Tenants voiced their concerns about welfare reform and left us in no doubt about how much they value the welfare rights and money advice services we are now able to offer as a result of our partnership with Link.

Representatives from Community Safety Glasgow provided a thought provoking perspective on anti-social behaviour, with a dramatic presentation exploring a case study. The afternoon’s entertainment was provided by Chris Stuart–Wilson, with an energising seated dance programme.

Feedback from the event was positive, with delegates finding the event interesting and enjoyable.

Julia Fitzpatrick, Horizon’s managing director, said: “Horizon held its last tenants’ conference in 2009, part of consultation with tenants about Horizon joining the Link group.

“Any fears about loss of service or identity have been put to rest and four years on, tenants were entirely positive about Horizon’s services and development.

“There was a great buzz all day and a real sense of tenants and staff working towards the same objectives.”
