PEDIGREE beef breeding company Highland Wagyu has completed a deal with Rawburn to purchase renowned herd sire, Rawburn DoubleOSeven, as part of a package for a private, six-figure sum.

Highland Wagyu, which is based at Blackford Farms’ 25,000-acre estate in Dunblane, purchased the distinguished bull with an undisclosed number of heifers, straws and embryos in the package, which they believe is a landmark deal for both businesses.

Mohsin Altajir, who owns and runs Highland Wagyu with his wife Martine, said: “We believe this is a great step in our quest to create the ultimate Aberdeen Angus herd.

“The Elliots are renowned amongst Angus breeders around the world and, as such, are well placed to help us achieve our mission.”

Highland Wagyu’s pedigree Aberdeen Angus herd runs at 100 cows with plans to achieve 200 in the next few years.

John Elliot Jnr of Rawburn, Roxburgh Mains in Kelso, said: “We are excited about the alignment between Rawburn and Highland Wagyu.

“We see this as a positive step for both herds. The genetics purchased are sourced from many of our top lines and I am sure they will offer a great addition to the ambitious project at Highland Wagyu.”
