THE Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns will light up the countdown to Christmas this Sunday 17th November with a spectacular celebrity-studded Christmas lights switch-on ceremony – and the arrival of Santa at his new grotto.

Taking place from 2pm – 5pm (Santa arriving at 3pm and the switch on at 4pm) and hosted by Clyde 1 broadcaster Gina McKie, the dazzling switch on ceremony will be performed by stars from The King’s Theatre Christmas panto Aladdin; Gavin Mitchell (the evil Abanazar), Jenny Douglas (Princess Jasmine) and Gordon Cooper (Widow Twankey).

And amongst a range of competitions and in-store offers on the day, shoppers will have a chance to win four tickets to Aladdin as well as Aladdin DVDs and genie lamps!

The stream of entertainment lined-up for the action-packed afternoon include performances from the Rock Choir, face painters, a balloon modeller and popular mall mascots Newton & Fearn handing out goodies to children throughout the centre – as well as in-store giveaways, free coffees and mince pies.

Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “The Christmas spirit is sure to be in full swing in the centre this Sunday when the Aladdin stars perform our Christmas lights switch-on and Santa Claus rolls into town to set up shop in his brand new grotto.

“The Avenue is all set to be central to you this Christmas so make sure to come along and see the Aladdin stars and Santa for yourself!”

The Avenue Shopping Centre, managed by commercial property consultancy BTWShiells, offers shoppers a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
