YESTERDAY Once More, the unique interactive reminiscence session for seniors hosted by popular veteran radio presenter, Dave Marshall, has raised £1,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Alzheimer’s Scotland.

A fundraising project inspired by Dave’s regular visits to the care home which looked after his mother, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease over her final years, Yesterday Once More is an unincorporated not-for-profit social enterprise group of fundraising volunteers.

“Remembering and talking about the past is something that we all do but, as a group social activity, it brings together people from different generations and backgrounds to share experiences and recall happy, positive memories,” said Dave.

“I’m delighted to be able to put to good use the encyclopaedic knowledge of music from the last six decades I’ve gained during 40 years as a prime time daily presenter on radio and TV in the west of Scotland – including at Radio Clyde, Saga Radio and 105.2 Smooth Radio – to put something back into two charities that are so very close to my heart; members of my own family have direct experience of both Alzheimer’s Disease and Cystic Fibrosis.

“Every older person has a wealth of stories to tell and a host of memories, often locked away. During our friendly and light-hearted sessions, I encourage my audience, without pressure, to recall their own special moments from the past. It could be a favourite song or recording star or perhaps a film or radio or television show from the last 60 years.

“An unique opportunity like this is sure to arouse many special memories of a bygone era and with audio and bright images projected onto a giant screen, everyone present can choose to become involved as I access the wealth of nostalgia available, live, online from my iPad.”

Yesterday Once More reminiscence presentations are available to seniors in venues across the West of Scotland, including residential retirement developments, day centres and hotels where guest speakers and entertainers are often invited to present entertaining events. Recent corporate fundraising activity for the group has included bookings on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council, Age Scotland, East Renfrewshire Council and Caulder’s Garden Centres.
