Media Release: Wellbeing event at Lasswade Library

Book love heart

MIDLOTHIAN residents are invited to a special free event at Lasswade Library (19 Eskdale Drive, Bonnyrigg), on Friday 22 November from 2pm.

The event is called Wellbeing at the Library and is being organised by the Midlothian Library Service in conjunction with NHS Lothian.

The event will showcase the Healthy Reading Collection which is available at all Midlothian libraries and online information from the Midspace website which is managed by the charity Health in Mind.

Councillor Lisa Beattie, cabinet member with responsibility for libraries, is looking forward to welcoming people to the event.

She said: “I would encourage people to come along. For many people life can be extremely stressful and the information that is available can be of great benefit in the management of anxiety, stress and depression.

“Looking after our health and wellbeing has to be a priority for us all.”

The programme for the afternoon includes a welcome and introduction from Councillor Lisa Beattie.

Karen Forrester, from NHS Lothian Psychology Department, will talk about the Healthy Reading Collection; senior library assistant, Cathi Gibson, will talk about the library’s staff experience of working with the collection; and Flora Sharp, from Health in Mind, will demonstrate the Midspace website which has helpful sections on self-help, recovery, information for carers and a directory of local services.

Linda Irvine, strategic programme manager, Mental Health and Wellbeing, NHS Lothian, said: “I would encourage people to come along and find out about the range of help that is available to people experiencing mental health problems in Midlothian.”

Refreshments will be provided.
