AWARD-winning Downhole Products has thrown its support behind a local karate team as it prepares to head for the sport’s world championships.
Members of Aberdeen’s National Karate Federation (NKF) of Scotland are gearing up to attend the World Karate Open Championships in Munich, Germany in January 2014 and Portlethen-based Downhole Products have provided a financial boost by meeting the cost of entry fees for participants.
Downhole Products are world market leaders in the design, manufacture and supply of casing accessories and completion tools such as centralisers, reamer guide shoes and cable clamp protectors.
The company recently unveiled a new range of cementing equipment which has been brought to the market following two years of development.
NKF president and 8th Dan Karate Master, Ronnie Watt OBE, said: “We are a small, self-funded organisation which will be representing Scotland on the international stage and we have been working very hard in preparation for the trip.
“In addition to extra training sessions and courses dedicated to particular aspects of karate, the squad has also been holding various fundraising events and we are very grateful to Downhole Products for their support.”
Downhole Products’ managing director, Ian Kirk, a 4th Dan Karate student for many years, added: “I have a special interest in the Federation and this event and I am very proud that my daughter Nissara is taking part.
“We are delighted to support the Federation and we wish them every success in Munich.”
