Media Release: Highland charities benefit from sports fair

HIGHLAND charities including Air Ambulance, Children 1st, Macmillan Nurses, Highland Hospice, Blythswood Care, Shopmobility Highland, Gamekeepers Welfare Trust and Riding for the Disabled have all benefited from the generosity of the Highland Field Sports Fair, held annually at Moy Hall in August.

In addition, participating clubs, whose invaluable help in running the Fair, have also benefited with much-needed funds for their organisations; these include Highland Hockey Club, field sports organisations and local scouts.

The committee of the Highland Field Sports Fair consider all local charities and support many throughout the Highlands. In 2013, a total of 34 charities have benefited.

James Murray, chief executive, said: “The Highland Field Sports Fair has been firmly established in the calendar for the last 36 years with our contributions to local charities being increased over the years. This year, the committee have been delighted to increase their donation over 2012 with the number of charities also increasing. Since 1977, we have donated over £728,000 to charities and clubs.”

The committee would particularly like to thank all the participating clubs for their help in organising the event, their help is invaluable from running events like the gun dog tests to arranging the parking which was managed by Highland Hockey Club.

The dates for the 2014 Highland Field Sports Fair are set for 1st and 2nd August at Moy Hall, thanks to Mrs Celia Macintosh of Macintosh. Activities in the main ring differ from year to year but you may see gun dog or fly-casting demonstrations, pipe bands, falconry displays, and much more.

Put the dates in your diary, remember to bring your terrier for the terrier racing- a highlight of the show!
