Media Release: Leadership programme to help grow Outer Hebrides businesses

A HIGH-level training programme for ambitious directors and business owners will get underway in the Outer Hebrides next week.

The programme is part of a Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) funded Leadership for Growth initiative which aims to help businesses and social enterprises become more productive and focus on growth and innovation.

The Uist and Barra programme will commence on the 27 January 2014 at Cothrom in South Uist and the Lewis and Harris programme at the HIE offices in Stornoway on 28 January.

Twenty-five directors and senior managers from local organisations will participate in the sessions which are designed to encourage businesses to discuss common issues with other likeminded leaders.

The programme is supported by HIE, run by the Institute of Directors (IoD) and is also funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).

Anne Macaulay from HIE in Innse Gall, said: “Successful programmes have been operating across the Highlands and Islands for many years and so we are delighted that ambitious leaders in the Outer Hebrides are taking advantage of this opportunity for the first time.

“The participants will benefit from one-to-one mentoring and coaching, and they will have the opportunity to gain academic credits towards a degree qualification if they wish. The programme aims to help people look at their businesses differently, building on their ambitions.”

Nigel Scott, one of the programme leaders, said: “The level of interest and enthusiasm already being shown by the delegates is very exciting. Based on past experience, sharing, learning and reflecting with other leaders in a friendly and confidential environment gives real benefits to the participants and their businesses.”

The programme will focus on areas such as strategy, innovation, sales and marketing, innovations, technology, finance and human resources.
