LEADING advice in the field of blowout relief well modelling was on offer to delegates attending an event in Aberdeen city centre yesterday (Thursday, January 30th).
The lunch and learn session was hosted by Fraser Offshore Ltd and led by Vegar Gruner, senior advisor at Norway-based Acona Flow Technology AS.
It was attended by well engineering professionals including drilling managers, engineers and well examiners, and focused on blowout simulation studies and relief well planning.
In addition to an introduction to the flow-modelling aspects of relief wells, delegates were given an overview and comparison of Norwegian and UK legislation surrounding relief well planning.
Ian McIlwaine, of Fraser Offshore Ltd, commented: “Fraser Offshore offers a relief well planning service which complements the flow modelling expertise of our Norwegian parent group Acona, so we were delighted to offer this event to share experiences with others.
“Building on the success of this session, we hope to offer further lunch and learns in the coming months to stimulate discussion among well engineering professionals.”
Vegar Gruner, of Acona Flow Technology AS, added: “It was an excellent opportunity to share our experiences in Norway and internationally, and to host a technical discussion around how our flow simulations can aid the relief well planning process. I hope to be back in Aberdeen hosting similar sessions in the coming months.”
