Media Release: Gala concert showcasing young talent, together with guest artists including Hannah Rarity and cast of River City

THE Glasgow Philharmonia Orchestra was founded in 2012 by 19 year-old conductor, Ross Gunning, and is to hold a gala concert in March at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The concert is to be Scottish themed and will be held on 28th and 29th, 2014 at 7.30pm at the New Atheneum Theatre, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The orchestra of some 80- 90 players, mainly students from the RCS will be accompanied by members of cast of River City, Hannah Rarity, and other Guest Artists.

The programme will include:

Arnold-Scottish Dances

Maccunn- Land of the Mountain and the Flood

Maxwell-Davies- Orkney Wedding with Sunrise

Mendelssohn – Hebrides Overture

Selection of Traditional Music

The orchestra, made up of 18-to-25 year-olds, many of whom are students, has enjoyed remarkable success in the past year.

Along with a fantastic Christmas fundraiser, the orchestra enjoyed a sell-out performance at the ‘Stars on Parade’ charity concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

At this electrifying performance, the musicians not only played a wonderful rendition of all our favourite James Bond themes like ‘For Your Eyes Only’ and ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’, but also gave deeply sentimental performance main songs from ‘The Phantom of The Opera’ and ‘Le Miserables’ alongside soloists, John Owen-jones and Sarah Earnshaw.

And from their appearance on stage with soloists and a Britain’s Got Talent winner they have certainly shown us their versatile repertoire and certainly earned their reputation as a showcase for young Scottish talent.

With every new year comes a fresh opportunity to compound successes and since that time the orchestra has welcomed to its board of management: PR executive, Martin Hunt, and CEO of’ ‘Stars on Parade’, Heather MacLeod, who are now working together with Ross on the orchestra’s latest project.
