Media Release: Equalizer ready to meet Australian market needs

Ian McCormick, Equalizer International

EQUALIZER International, developer of what is believed to be the world’s most powerful flange spreading wedges, will be introducing its new product range to the Australian market when it exhibits at AOG this month.

The Scotland-headquartered company’s new SWi range of wedges have been designed to significantly decrease downtime while providing a safe, efficient and cost effective way to access and spread flange joints.

The tools generate a world-leading spreading force of up to 25T and the SWi range includes a hydraulic (SWi20/25TE), integral hydraulic (SWi20/25TI) and a mechanical version (SWi12/14TM).

The maximum spreading force has increased by up to 60 per cent with a potential 30 per cent increase in spreading distance, compared to Equalizer’s existing spreading wedges.

The company announced it was bringing out a new product when it was exhibiting at OTC in Houston in May last year and global interest has grown in the product range since it went into production at the end of last year.

Traditional flange maintenance working practices involve capital and labour-intensive activities.

Although Equalizer International tools are considerably more powerful they’ve been designed with the end-user in mind so they are light, portable and very safe and efficient to use.

That means significant costs savings through reducing downtime from what might have been days to just hours and more importantly introduces much safer and more efficient ways of working.

Ian McCormick, chair and managing director of Equalizer International, said the company has been receiving orders from around the world for its new SWi spreaders.

He said: “The Australian market is a very important one for us as our products are used offshore, both topside and subsea and are therefore highly applicable to the offshore fields in Western Australia.

“But they are also relevant to, and bring significant safety and cost benefits to the onshore oil and gas, refining and petrochemicals industries.

“We have been working with our local Australian partner, Specialised Force, for five years and they have been successfully selling our products through their network of regional offices, in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville, Darwin, Melbourne and Adelaide.

“We are also very active throughout Asia and have partners in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.”
