AWARD-winning Scottish seafood restaurant, Mussel Inn, has refreshed and enhanced its menu so that it now means much more to diners than mere mussels.

The new menu has been developed in response to last summer’s heat wave which caused naturally occurring toxic algae in Shetland, requiring the restaurant to temporarily remove mussels from its menu.

Whilst mussels remain a staple of Mussel Inn’s menu, the restaurant now offers a broader selection of fresh Scottish seafood dishes than ever before.

Matt Johansson, food and beverage manager at Mussel Inn, said: “Despite our name, we’ve always served up a broad selection of seafood options, with scallops, oysters and king prawns amongst our more popular regular dishes.

“But now we have significantly extended our seafood offering to present our customers with a fresh selection of dishes and introduce new flavours.”

With starters including seafood chowder, whitebait, fish cakes, grilled queenies, crab salad, Piri Piri prawns, hot smoked salmon, oysters and queen scallops, new main dishes include: a hot seafood platter of king and queen scallops, tiger prawns and mussels poached in seafood sauce topped with grilled sea bass fillet and cream fraiche; pan fried or char-grilled king scallops, spiced fish stew and shellfish pasta with mussels, prawns, queen scallops, crayfish tails and fettuccini in a shellfish bisque.

Other dishes include: crab pasta; tiger prawns; sea bass and a surf and turf option comprising a 6oz Orkney rump steak, three tiger prawns and three half shell queenies served with a seafood sauce, new potato, rocket and cherry tomato salad.

Meanwhile, the restaurant’s mussels, grown on ropes in sea lochs on the West of Scotland and the Shetland Isles, remain available in kilo and half kilo pots with a selection of popular sauces, including shallot, roasted peppers, Moroccan and blue cheese.

Located at 157 Hope Street, in the heart of the city centre and just a five minute walk from Glasgow Central Station, Mussel Inn is renowned for its passion for its offering of delicious locally sourced fresh seafood, providing excellent value for money and a quick and friendly service.
