Media Release: New fleet hits the roads

OLLECO, a Scots specialist resource recovery business, is this week rolling out the first two of its state-of-the-art waste collection vehicles built to a new design in order to support its expanding Scottish division.

The custom-built vehicles are the first of a fleet of six new waste collection trucks to run alongside the existing fleet already in operation across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

The new vehicles come at a time when Olleco is experiencing increased demand for its food waste collection service, following the introduction of the new Waste (Scotland) Regulations at the turn of the year.

Olleco Scotland, which is headquartered in Coatbridge and specialises in the provision and collection of cooking oil in addition to the pick-up of organic waste, has been working hard to help Scotland’s food businesses get up to speed with the new changes and remain compliant.

Vincent Igoe, general manager of Olleco Scotland, said: “We have been working on an innovative new design on our waste vehicles for some time to increase efficiency and customer service.

“With new legislation coming into place at the beginning of the year changing the way commercial food businesses will manage their waste; we knew that the first quarter was going to be busy and it made sense for us to expand our fleet in Scotland.

“This year, as the business continues to grow, we have a number of additional orders underway, including five new oil vehicles which will support our fresh oil delivery and used waste oil collection service. With near silent operation and fantastic fuel consumption, our vehicles are the most modern on the roads.”

In accordance with Olleco’s core belief of 100 per cent resource recovery, the collection vehicles have been designed so that they are more fuel-efficient than other standard collection vehicles.

In addition to this, the new trucks include electric lifting equipment which means the engine doesn’t need to run (and waste fuel) while the vehicle is onsite making collections.

The organic waste firm also deploys modern technology to help it calculate the most time and fuel efficient routes for its drivers, to help cut costs and save the environment from unnecessary pollution.

In addition to the provision of food waste vehicles, Olleco have added a number of vehicles to the fleet already this year as part of its ongoing multimillion pound contract with its Scottish supplier.
