Media Release: Newton and Fearn help Avenue exceed charity fundraising target

POPULAR life-sized mall mascots Newton and Fearn have helped The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns surpass its 2014 target of £1,000 for its nominated charity, East Renfrewshire’s Good Causes, in the first four months of the year.

The popularity of the mascots recently prompted the Avenue to produce a range of mini mascot Newton and Fearn dolls in return for a £5 donation per doll with all profits going to East Renfrewshire Good Causes.

The result is that The Avenue has already raised £1,100 from community donations and mini mascot sales.

Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “The popularity of our Newton and Fearn dolls have exceeded all our wildest expectations – to the direct benefit of our nominated charity thanks to the generosity of the people of East Renfrewshire.

“The Avenue prides itself in playing an active role in the local community and is committed fully to ongoing community engagement. As such, East Renfrewshire Good Causes is the perfect match as our charity partner and we look forward to working closely with Russell to help achieve the charity’s objectives to the benefit of the local community.”

East Renfrewshire Good Causes is a fundraising charity founded by Russell Macmillan, a local blind, double transplant recipient (pancreas and kidney) to say ‘thank you’ to society for his new life.

Mini Newton and Fearn mascots can be obtained at The Avenue’s Centre Management Suite for £5 each, with all profits donated to charity.

The Avenue Shopping Centre, managed by commercial property consultancy BTWShiells, offers shoppers a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
