Media Release: Ex-pat Scot predicts manufacturing upsurge in biopharmaceuticals

Pauline McGregor with Fraser Black

CANADA-based PMcG Consulting has identified a lack of shared knowledge between manufacturing, auality operations, R&D and regulatory compliance sectors in the healthcare industries and is now offering expertise to companies in Scotland, as well as in Canada.

Founder, Edinburgh-born Dr Pauline McGregor, says: “There is a need for cross education and training to allow the different disciplines to communicate with each other so that realistic objectives can be met by all in a timely manner with a harmonised understanding.”

Fraser Black, managing director of BioCity Scotland, says: “PMcG Consulting has opened a virtual office at BioCity Scotland to ‘come back home’ to the founder, Dr Pauline McGregor’s native Scotland, recognising the rapid development in the bioscience sector in Scotland towards active manufacturing.

“Pauline’s skill set will be a benefit not just to our tenants developing new drugs, but also to the rest of the Biopharma sector in Scotland.”

Dr McGregor trained in Edinburgh Scotland, and gained a PhD in photo organic chemistry.

She then moved to the University of Western Ontario, Canada, to complete her postdoctoral studies.

She is an experienced trainer and has been delivering analytical R&D, method validation, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and related quality systems courses across Canada, in the USA and in the UK, China and Jordan.

She is a highly-rated presenter and has spent the last 25 years working in the pharmaceutical industry with pharma companies and contract testing labs in Canada and in the UK.

“As the Life Science industries in Scotland emerge successfully from the clinical trial phase of the product lifecycle, companies will be taking the next step towards marketing their product. This involves manufacturing and testing their product in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices.

“My company’s mission is to help bridge the gap between different stages in biopharmaceutical development, global practices, academia and industry, contract laboratories and pharmaceutical companies, through education, training and communication. We come in with a ‘Blue Sky’ approach and find down to earth solutions.”
