Media Release: Perth’s original 10k gains support from local business

Perth 10k 800x450

FOLLOWING a very successful 30th anniversary in 2013, Perth City’s 10k race is now an annual tradition for many local runners, and organisers have today announced that a title partnership with a local business, naming it the Keepsafe Perth 10k, has ensured its future will continue to be secure.

The 2013 event sold out and 2014 promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Many take the opportunity to have fun with family and friends in the beautiful Perthshire surroundings, and some 1,000 attendees will be chasing the fastest time prize.

Anne Smith, managing director of Keepsafe Storage, describes her decision to support the event as an obvious one.

“The Keepsafe Perth 10k is a well-established event that many locals will have taken part in over the years and, interestingly, it started in 1983, the same year that we introduced the self-storage concept to Perthshire so we’ve sort of grown up, running alongside each other.

“I’m glad to be a part of this great race, Perth’s longest-established major running event, and will be joining the other 1000 runners on the day.”

With an emphasis on family fun, the Keepsafe Perth 10k is a great excuse to get a bit of exercise in the beautiful Perthshire grasslands, with many opting to raise money for their charity of choice.

Steve Bonthrone, race organiser, who set up the social enterprise, Perthshire Running Events in 2011 to ensure the on going success of the event, and to promote running for all across Perth & Kinross, said: “Last year, the event sold out with over a week to go so this year we have increased the number of entry places available to 1,000 to accommodate the swell in demand for places.

“We are amazed and delighted at the response the Perth 10k has had since Perthshire Running Events took over in 2011 and feel it is an event that the whole family can get involved in.

“We believe it doesn’t matter whether you’re first or last, it’s the same finish line!”

Race registration opens Sunday 1st June at 9:00am and, with limited spaces available, runners are advised to sign up soon to ensure their place.

Prospective participants for the Keepsafe Perth 10K 2014 are encouraged to sign up soon when registration opens on Sunday 1st June via www.perth10k.co.uk
