Media Release: Floors Castle awarded five-star status

LUXURY visitor attraction, Floors Castle in Kelso, has been confirmed as a five star visitor attraction by tourism body, VisitScotland.

The award comes in recognition of the Castle’s high standards in visitor services, facilities and catering.

With particular standout praise for the guides who work within the Castle, cited as ‘the best ever encountered’ and being scored ten out of ten, the VisitScotland accolade is testament to the dedication and expertise of the guides, many of whom have worked for the estate for years.

His Grace, the Duke of Roxburghe, comments: “This accolade is well earned by the extraordinary Castle team which works to bring a five-star experience to our visitors every day.

“Putting our visitors at the top of the agenda in terms of experience and comfort is important to us.

“We like to go the extra mile to ensure that everything, from ticketing and cafes, to the quality of our produce and information, is the very best.”

Paula McDonald, regional director of VisitScotland, said: “I am absolutely delighted to award Floors Castle with a VisitScotland five-star award.

“Floors Castle offers an incredible visitor experience and is an attraction of which the Scottish Borders can be proud.

“The world-class attraction features in much of our marketing and was the focus of the opening scene in our TV advert seen throughout the UK last year.”

The announcement comes at the same time as the Castle has unveiled newly restored historic 17th century tapestries following extensive restoration in Belgium.

The tapestries are part of a collection originally brought to Floors by the 8th Duchess of Roxburghe, Duchess May in 1903.

A wealthy American heiress who inherited a vast collection of portraits, tapestries and furniture from her parents, the 8th Duchess carried on collecting throughout her time at Floors.

The collection of stunning and valuable artworks is central to the visitor tour, or is available for private view within corporate and group events.

Originally built in 1721, Floors Castle is the largest inhabited castle in Scotland and home to the 10th Duke of Roxburghe.

Set in the beautiful Scottish Borders and part of the Roxburghe Estate, Floors Castle is open from Easter to October and gives a fascinating insight into the lives of successive dukes.

As a family home, the Castle is both informal and grand with historic tapestries, beautiful gardens and two cafes with a focus on quality home produce.

Popular with group travel, corporate event organisers and individual visitors alike, a visit to Floors is a superb day out.

Add to that the range of sporting and country pursuits on the Estate, a luxury country house hotel and a championship golf course, the Roxburghe Estate offers a great destination in its own right
