Media Release: MG ALBA announces key appointment to senior management team

Iseabail Mactaggart - (2)

MG ALBA (the Gaelic Media Service) has announced the appointment of Iseabail Mactaggart to the post of director of Development and Partnership.

The new role is aimed at strengthening the commercial and creative impact of the Gaelic media production sector.

Ms MacTaggart, from Islay, was until recently the Member for Scotland on the Content Board of Ofcom and takes up her post with MG ALBA with immediate effect.

Iseabail began her broadcast career at BBC Radio nan Gaidheal, before moving to London where she progressed latterly to become part of the senior editorial team on BBC Radio 5 live’s Breakfast programme in London.

She then moved into a communications role in the private sector for one of the world’s top ten single malts, Bowmore, and going on to take further senior roles within the company.

Since then, in addition to her Ofcom role, other public appointments have included membership of the board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

Donald Campbell, chief executive of MG ALBA, said: “In its first six years, BBC ALBA has gone from strength to strength with outstanding viewing figures. One of the fundamentals of that success has been the creativity of our production partners.

“We want to build on that, by working with our production partners and other agencies, to further strengthen the offering we make to BBC ALBA’s audience, and further leverage the economic and creative impact Gaelic broadcasting makes.

“Iseabail is a highly-respected professional who has extensive broadcast experience, both operationally and strategically, and that, combined with her international commercial perspective, will provide the insight we seek to build on the success of the channel.”

Iseabail Mactaggart said: “BBC ALBA is at an exciting junction, with strong viewing figures, imaginative plans for drama and the ambition to increase the number of originations on the channel.

“Positioning the Gaelic production sector to further strengthen its economic and creative output is a challenge I look forward to, and I am delighted to be part of the continuing success of BBC ALBA.”
