Media Release: Scottish Swimming: North District Grand Prix; last chance to post nomination times for Team Scotland

2014-04-04 08.56.42-2

Grand Prix results and remaining Team Scotland places to be decided this weekend

ABERDEEN Aquatics Centre will play host to the final round of the 2013/14 Grand Prix Series, from Friday 30th May to Sunday 1st June.

The event has added significance as it will also double up as a phase 2 selection meet for Team Scotland places, the last chance for athletes to post a consideration time for Glasgow. So with Grand Prix points tight going into the final round and a number of places still up for grabs on Team Scotland, there is still everything to swim for.

Among those competing will be many of the swimmers already selected onto Team Scotland after their results in April, including University of Stirling’s Ross Murdoch in the 100m, 200m and 50m breaststroke events, Commonwealth Games Champions Robbie Renwick (City of Glasgow Swim Team) in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle and Hannah Miley (Garioch), who is down to compete in no less than nine events!

Introduced in November 2011 the Grand Prix Series provides our swimmers with an additional opportunity to race against high quality opposition, usually in long course format, at key periods of the competitive season.

The Meets are open to all swimmers throughout Scotland and entries are also be welcomed from across the UK and overseas. The series consists of three meets hosted in Inverness, Edinburgh and Aberdeen for this season. Each meet will follow the same format with swimmers scoring points based on performance at each meet. The prize fund is £5,000 and will be earned by the leading swimmers across the series, with prizes for the best overall swimmers (male and female) and for individual categories. Meets may also be entered on an individual basis but swimmers must contest at least two of the three meets in order to be eligible for prize money.

The event kicks off on Friday afternoon when racing starts at 5.05pm.
