Media Release: Aberdeenshire pupils help launch new buses

New Stagecoach Bus

LEADING transport company, Stagecoach North Scotland, has celebrated World Environment Day (Thursday, June 5th) with the launch of a fleet of new, eco-friendly buses which will be enjoyed by passengers in the North-east.

The company has just invested £1.5 million in a fleet of ten new Enviro300 buses which will carry passengers throughout the company’s Bluebird area.

The news comes as the company holds its sixth annual Stagecoach Green Week, an initiative which runs across the company’s operations in the UK and North America.

The new buses are full-size, weight-efficient single deck buses featuring a chassis and body combination which offers environmental, energy and economic benefits.

The vehicles hold the potential to drive down operating costs by offering more seats and reducing fuel consumption with no compromise to strength or reliability.

On hand to help launch the vehicles in Aberdeenshire were P2 pupils at Hill of Banchory Primary School who are studying transport as a classroom topic.

In addition, the school is the holder of a prestigious Green Flag Award, the highest achievement possible in the international Eco Schools programme which aims to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school for pupils, staff and the wider community.

Commenting on the launch of the new vehicles, Stagecoach North Scotland managing director, Steve Walker, said: “This shows Stagecoach Bluebird’s continued investment in the region and, despite increased congestion, we are investing in greener buses and still maintaining our promise to provide passengers with new buses with a combination of high specifications, durability and reliability to maintain our services and timetables and keep the environment greener.”

Hill of Banchory Primary School P2 teacher, Louise Fry, added: “This was an excellent opportunity to bring our class topic to life by giving the pupils hands-on experience of modern transport.”
