TWO North-east firms are getting ready to face the dirt as they prepare for one of their toughest fundraising challenges to raise money for local charities.

Employees from Motive Offshore and Motive Renewables, which are both headquartered in Boyndie, near Banff, are nervously getting set to face the mud, ice baths and electric fences in the Tough Mudder challenge in Dalkeith this weekend, as part of their fundraising initiative to raise vital funds for their chosen charities for the year, The ARCHIE Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

The employees who established their own charity group, Team Motive, at the start of the year, have already participated in the Knock Hill Race – a gruelling eight-and-a-half mile race to the top of Knock Hill and back, as part of the Cornhill Highland Games, and the Inverness Race for Life, successfully managing to raise more than £4000 to date.

Team Motive member, Vivien Rae, said: “June has been a very busy month for Team Motive with some of our biggest challenges, and this weekend, 17 team members will be tackling Tough Mudder, which will be a brutal 13-mile mud run obstacle course with underwater tunnels, ice baths and extreme climbing walls.

“Team Motive has grown organically with the simple aim to do something fun as a group, whilst also raising money for local and national charities, as well as increasing the social and health benefits of the team.

“We now have over a quarter of staff involved, with new members joining after witnessing our enjoyment, as we started training and practising together.

“So far, we have raised well over half of our target and we are very grateful to those who have donated, as it has inspired us and made us more determined to successfully complete our challenges.

“As a company, we are very focused on community engagement so along with fundraising we sponsored the Cornhill Highland Games and upcoming Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in Portsoy.”

Chief executive of The ARCHIE Foundation, David Cunningham, is no stranger to tough events, with several marathons under his trainers.

“This is a brilliant effort from Team Motive. Tough Mudder sounds awesome and we are very grateful that they are undertaking it for charity, we wish them all well.

“All the events planned over the summer show great commitment and the money donated will help The ARCHIE Foundation to make a real difference for sick children in the North of Scotland through our ‘High 10 for ARCHIE’ appeal.

“We thank all the team very much indeed.”
