A GLASGOW bar and restaurant is offering to soften the blow of being beaten in the World Cup by offering disappointed fans a tasty treat.

Hummingbird, located on Glasgow’s trendy Bath Street, is encouraging anyone who comes from the country of a football team that places second during World Cup to claim their free burger, in a bid to take away the pain from losing out.

All customers have to do to claim their free burger is flash their passport to a member of staff to verify their nationality, any day of the week, and receive their delicious consolation prize.

Marc Frossman, marketing manager at Hummingbird, said: “Anyone that follows the World Cup and supports their home team understands how gutting it can be to lose out against another country.

“We thought instead of purely celebrating the win, we would help console the hearts, and stomachs, of the loosing team fans through our delicious burgers.

“As the old saying goes. ‘To the victor go the spoils’, but here the losers eat for free.”

Runners-up can choose from the extensive Gourmet Ketchup Burger menu selecting either beef, chicken, lamb or a vegetarian patty to accompany a delicious selection of toppings including sizzling hickory smoked bacon, pepper jack cheese, crispy onion straws or salsa and taco strips.

Marc added: “The least we can do is soften the blow by giving away burgers to cheer up any glum or even homesick fans whose team doesn’t make it through to the final.

“Let’s face it, nothing beats losing more than a wholesome, home-cooked meal completely free to battle the football blues.”

Football fans can also get involved with Hummingbird’s Posh Football Package which includes getting to watch a game on HD TV, a private bar, delicious burger and an ice cold pint of Estrella for just £10 per head.

Hummingbird is spread across four floors encompassing four bars, a restaurant serving up fresh, homemade food and a unique club space with several separate party pods and karaoke rooms.
