Media Release: Specialist North-east reservoir engineering consultancy adds to expert team

Oilgen-Theo 2

AN Aberdeen-based reservoir engineering consultancy has made a key appointment to strengthen its services across the globe.

Oilgen, which specialises in high-tech reservoir modelling to forecast and improve oil and gas production, has appointed Theo Sketopoulos as a staff reservoir engineer.

Mr Sketopoulos, 26, who is originally from Greece, studied for a degree in mineral resource engineering at the Technical University in Crete, followed by a postgraduate degree in petroleum engineering at the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.

During his studies, he investigated analytical techniques used to model fluid flow to predict how reservoirs behave under various development scenarios, and has experience in reservoir engineering, reservoir simulation, and well test analysis.

Oilgen is currently working on projects in the North Sea, France, Egypt, West Africa and Holland for top names in the oil and gas industry, and recently launched Oilgen USA LLC, to help petroleum companies acquire the best onshore oil and gas assets in America.

Advisors work to identify deals and evaluate reserves in America on behalf of the client, and the division is also a provider of unconventional and conventional reservoir simulation services.

In his role, Mr Sketopoulos will primarily work on projects for the American division focusing on modelling unconventional reservoirs and shale reservoirs.

Mr Sketopoulos’ appointment takes the specialist team at Oilgen to five, and the company recently moved to a new base in Aberdeen’s West End to accommodate the growth of the business.

It also has a number of external consultants specialising in project management, production technology, economics, geology and geophysics. Plans are in place to double the workforce by next year.

Oilgen managing director, Laurent Schirrer, said: “There is a demand from clients in the US to put more reservoir science in the assessment of their unconventional reserves, and Theo’s appointment will allow us to increase our capacity to cope with more projects as we expand into the American market.

“As a dual nationality citizen, Theo can freely travel to America to work with clients in Houston. He is a valuable addition to the Oilgen team.”

In addition to subsurface project management, Oilgen operates an advisory branch, which includes access to a range of experienced consultants providing further support to its clients in reserves and acquisitions.
