Media Release: Hawkhill House Nursing Home to celebrate young musical talent

RESIDENTS of Milltimber’s Hawkhill House Nursing Home are preparing to celebrate up-and-coming musical talent with a host of events.

During a week of performances, residents, families, staff and Friends of Hawkhill will enjoy a celebration of home-grown and international talent as some of the world’s top young musicians drop by.

The ‘mini festival’ will kick off on Monday, July 28th with a visit from Simunye Simunye Arts who will share some of the music, theatre and dance of Zimbabwe as part of their visit to the North East for the Aberdeen International Youth Festival (AIYF).

The following day will see fellow AIYF visitors Blackburn with Darwen Music Service Big Band entertain residents.

The week will culminate on Thursday, July 31st with the highlight of Hawkhill House Nursing Home’s calendar as the venue hosts its annual garden party which will feature further talent from the AIYF.

In addition, the Robert Burns World Federation will be represented thanks to award-winning Burnsians, Matthew Adam, a singer from Aberdeen, and violinist, Erin Smith, who trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London and has toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe and Mauritius.

Hawkhill House owner and managing director, Rona Tayler, is a long-term supporter of the local youth music scene and is looking forward to again welcoming talented musicians.

She explained: “As well as providing a performance opportunity for these young artistes, these events provide an important occasion for our residents to enjoy live music.

“Since it opened Hawkhill has placed a strong emphasis on offering a wide and varied activity programme, and performances such as this play a central role in ensuring that we provide an interesting and stimulating environment for our residents.”

She added: “The much-anticipated garden party is also our chance to thank everyone who supports us throughout the year and we look forward to sharing the day with our guests, including the Lord Provost of Aberdeen George Adam.”

Hawkhill House Nursing Home is located at 234 North Deeside Road, Milltimber, Aberdeen, AB13 0DQ.
