A NORTH-east property development and commercial leasing company has shown its support for a local food bank initiative by making a substantial donation.

Waterloo Quay Properties, which is based at the city’s harbour side, recently organised a food drive with local social enterprise, Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE), and managed to collect over 300kg of food, toiletries and baby supplies for the local food bank in Aberdeen to help those in need.

The property firm, which was established in 2008, worked with CFINE to coordinate the weeklong food drive, encouraging staff and tenants within the buildings to donate any surplus food and toiletries.

CFINE, which has been supplying fruit and veg to deprived communities since 1996, works with the Food Banks Partnership Aberdeen to distribute food in the area.

Managing director at Waterloo Quay, Anna-Marie Eardley, said: “Our recent food drive has been a real success with employees and tenants fully supporting the scheme.

“As a firm, we are actively committed to helping the community and continually look to support wherever possible.

“With a rising number of people in food poverty in the local area, we decided to get involved with CFINE. Due to the success, we are now hoping to organise regular food drives and continue our donations throughout the year.”

Christine McLean, from CFINE, said: “If it wasn’t for businesses like Waterloo Quay Properties, we really wouldn’t exist or be able to provide the deprived areas in the city with much-needed supplies and food parcels.

“This kind donation from Waterloo Quay will help to feed over 100 families so it really will make a huge difference.

“It is also great to hear that they will be continuing to support CFINE with more food drives and help us tackle food poverty in the city.”

Waterloo Quay Properties, which has an extensive range of bespoke grade ‘A’ commercial office developments, regularly supports local charities and the community by hosting and taking part in various fundraising events such as bake sales, Easter egg donations to the hospital and client nights.

The firm provides more than 100,000 sq ft of premium office space for approximately 30 companies, and has invested significantly creating additional services for tenants including large on-site catering facilities, fully equipped gymnasium and squash courts and several meeting rooms.
