Media Release: Local restaurants and takeaways in running for national awards

LOCAL restaurants and takeaways throughout Scotland are in the running for national awards in a new awards competition celebrating the ‘best of the best’ in Asian cuisine.

The Asian Food Awards, featuring entries from chefs and food outlets representing all types of Asian cooking – Bangladeshi, Indian, Thai, Nepalese, to name a few – are being run by the Asian Catering Federation, the umbrella organisation for the Federation of Bangladeshi Caterers.

And a specific Scottish leg of the Britain-wide competition is culminating with an awards ceremony in Edinburgh on Monday evening (September 1) at the prestigious Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa.

The awards’ full name is the ‘First ACF/FoBC gala dinner and First Asian Food Awards Ceremony Scotland’.

Among the nominations are restaurants and takeaways in Ballater, Edinburgh, Dalkeith, Aberdeen, Dunfermline, Perth, Falkirk, Irvine and Glasgow.

Among the categories are Best Restaurant Design, Best Marketing Campaign and Healthy Cuisine Provider, with awards also to individuals for Chef of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Says the chief executive of the Federation of Bangladeshi Caterers, Yawar Khan: “We believe these awards to be a first for Britain, celebrating not just one type of Asian cooking, but all Asian cooking.

“They have been established to partly recognise the enormous economic role played by our restaurants and takeaways on our High Street, as well as the fantastic cooking expertise on display every day and night of the week throughout the country.”
