Clyde 1 breakfast show host enjoys audience increase in Q3 2014 with station’s daily 6-10am show now reaching 299,000 listeners every week

CLYDE 1’s George Bowie has retained his crown as the king of breakfast commercial radio in Glasgow and the west, by gaining 10,000 new listeners in the last three months.

Bowie’s daily Bowie At Breakfast show, which airs 6-10am every weekday, added to its audience in the third quarter of 2014 according to the latest figures released by RAJAR, the official body in charge of measuring radio audiences in the UK.

The award-winning presenter, who has been with Clyde a marathon 26 years, didn’t even allow a short spell in hospital affect his ongoing success as he quickly returned fighting fit to take his weekly audience just short of the 300,000 mark.

The RAJAR figures, for Q3 2014, show Bowie At Breakfast retaining its position as the leading commercial radio breakfast show in the region, now 99,000 listeners ahead of Heart Scotland in the TSA (total survey area) and 143,000 ahead of Capital Scotland.

George Bowie, Bowie At Breakfast show host, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to hear that we’re still the number one breakfast show in Glasgow and the west, and even more so that we continue to attract new listeners to our own brand of morning madness.

“The last few months have been nothing if not uneventful and I want to say a massive thanks to all the lovely listeners who continue to support myself, the team and the show – we couldn’t do it without you.”

Elsewhere, Clyde 1 retains its spot as the number one commercial radio station in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, reaching an audience of 496,000 on a weekly basis.

Graham Bryce, group managing director, Place, Northern England and Scotland, said: “The latest RAJAR results are great news for the Bowie At Breakfast show and testament to the skills, determination and unique audience engagement of George and his talented team.

“The summer and early autumn of 2014 was a fantastic time for everyone in Glasgow and the west and the Bowie At Breakfast show was unrivalled in capturing the spirit of all the fantastic sport and other events taking place in the city.

“It’s no great surprise that George has again proven he is up for the battle for breakfast show audience and all the team should be very proud to have added another 10,000 listeners in the last quarter.

“As George said, we’d like to thank our hundreds of thousands of listeners for their ongoing support, as well as our huge number of commercial partners and advertisers who know they can count on our local expertise to deliver engaging, interesting and innovative content and campaigns.”
