Media Release: Scottish spring skiing and winter walking at The Cross

The Cross at Kingussie (800 x 419)

SPRING is on its way and The Cross at Kingussie is opening again this weekend after the winter break and further refurbishment.

In time for Valentine’s Weekend on 13 February, the eight-bedroomed Scottish Highland fine dining restaurant with rooms is opening the doors again.

Having had a great deal of snow in the past few weeks the ski conditions in Scotland are excellent and The Cross at Kingussie is perfectly situated for both Scotland’s main ski areas; Cairngorm and Nevis Range which both offer some of the best Scottish skiing.

As many are aware, Scottish snow conditions can be unpredictable but if the conditions aren’t suitable in the east (Cairngorm) they’re often great in the west (Nevis Range) and vice versa. The Cross is an easy 35 minutes’ drive from the Cairngorm slopes or an hour away from the Nevis Range.

Lift passes and ski hire can be booked in advance and guests are assured of a warm welcome back at The Cross, along with fine dining to set them up for another day on the slopes.

Being in the Cairngorm National Park there’s naturally some wonderful winter walking starting from the doorstep of The Cross.

Walks range from a short, gentle stroll along the Gynack burn to a more exhilarating full day’s walk taking in some spectacular scenery, the 300 year-old Raitts Township and the historic Ruthven Barracks dating back to 1719.

The past couple of months have been busy for The Cross at Kingussie.

“During January we certainly had our work cut out for us,” explains co-owner, Celia Kitchingman.

“Derek and I have been keeping fit clearing snow most mornings from the driveway. We have also continued our refurbishment programme. Many of the bathrooms have been upgraded and there is now a lovely new addition to the reception lounge in the form of a super wood-burning stove making the lounge even more welcoming and cosy on a cold day.”

To tempt potential skiers or those looking to enjoy walking in the area there are various offers available. These include a two-night. mid-week stay with a taste bud-tantalising three course dinner each evening and a sumptuous Scottish breakfast, from £360 per couple for both nights.
