AN Aberdeen-based well management firm has commenced drilling at the UK’s first conventional onshore exploration wells of 2015.

Zenith Energy, which was established in 2012, has initiated drilling operations of the Europa Oil & Gas operated Kiln Lane well, which is located in North-east Lincolnshire on licence PEDL 181.

The Kiln Lane well is the first full project management contract for Zenith Energy, which will involve drilling to a total depth of approximately 2,500 metres. Europa Oil & Gas estimates Kiln Lane, a conventional exploration well targeting oil in Upper Carboniferous sandstone reservoirs, has mean gross un-risked recoverable resources of 2.9 million barrels of oil.

The independent well engineering and project management company, which is based at Bon Accord Square in Aberdeen, has executed all well planning, regulatory permitting and full project management of the drilling operation.

Managing director of Zenith Energy, Martin Booth, said: “The Kiln Lane well is Zenith’s first complete well management project and we are pleased to announce that drilling has begun. Due to previous work with Europa Oil & Gas, we have built a close working relationship with the firm, so it is great to work on this exciting project so we can again showcase our skills and expertise. It’s a great achievement to be involved in one of the first onshore wells in the UK in 2015 and a fantastic start to our third year of business, as we continue to expand our client portfolio and track record of working with a number of operators worldwide.”

Europa’s CEO, Hugh Mackay, said: “We are delighted to commence operations on the Kiln Lane conventional oil prospect and we look forward to updating shareholders with the results from this well towards the end of March. I wish to thank our geoscience, operations and permitting teams all of whom have delivered excellent performance and have brought the well to spud on schedule against a tight timeframe.”

Zenith Energy, which currently has 18 employees, has over 100 years of professional experience in the industry and last year more than doubled its client list to 19, working with a number of operators in the UK, Ireland, Norway, France and West Africa.
