Media Release: Appetite for Inverness festival grows as world’s oldest brewery announces attendance

North Hop 3

AN Inverness-based large-scale craft beer festival is getting set to play host to the world’s oldest brewery to coincide with Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink.

North Hop, which is now in its second year, is taking place in Inverness on 21 and 22 August 2015 at Eden Court, and will be welcoming Bavarian State Brewery, Weihenstephan, from Germany, which has been in operation for almost 1,000 years.

The two-day event, which has just over 1,500 tickets available for festivalgoers, is set to boast over 20 different Scottish exhibitors celebrating craft beer, cider, artisan gins, creative cocktails, independent music and a selection of street food vendors.

The festival will showcase a wide range of food and drink products from across the Highlands and Scotland, as well as a number of exhibitors from further afield.

Brewery and bar exhibitors include; BrewDog, Eden Mill Distillery & Brewery, Thistly Cross Cider, Six Degrees North, Loch Ness Cider, Loch Ness Brewery, Drygate Brewing Co, Windswept Brewing Co, Cromarty Brewing Co, Fyne Ales, Berry Good and 10 Dollar Shake as well as guest brewery Weihenstephan.

This year the festival will also offer an abundance of street food vendors including; Loch Ness Inn, Aye Love Real Food, Fresh Revolution, Poporopo and The Adelphi Kitchen and La Tortilla Asesina.

There will also be a number of recreational exhibitors attending including Tipple Box with their innovative cocktail boxes, and Brew Craft Beer with their craft beer starter kits, for festivalgoers to enjoy.

Organiser, Michelle Russell, said: “This year we have really gone up and above to ensure that we not only offer a fantastic line up of breweries and bars, but we’ve also tripled the number of street vendors exhibiting which is extremely exciting as this is one aspect of the festival we really wanted to adapt.

“This year we celebrate the Year of Food and Drink Scotland 2015 and I think North Hop is an excellent example of an event which proactively embraces products from Scotland’s natural larder.

“This year we’ve introduced a new element of the festival and have invited Bavarian State Brewery, Weihenstephan from Germany to exhibit to the festival. We wanted to offer festivalgoers something a little bit different and I think the brewery is a great addition to the event.”

Johannes Weiss, sales manager export for Europe for Weihenstephan, commented: “We are very excited to be part of North Hop this year as we are the first and only non-Scottish brewery which will be exhibiting at the festival.

“We are delighted to be involved in the festival and look forward to bringing a totally new aspect to North Hop. Through our import partner, Branded Drinks, our beers are already well positioned in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness; however, we want to showcase our beers to a new beer market and thought the festival would be the perfect opportunity.

“We have previously worked with a number of Scottish breweries, including BrewDog, who we collaborated with creating a brew called Indian Pale Weizen and are looking forward to catching up with the other exhibitors.”

North Hop sessions will run from 6pm until 12 midnight on Friday, 21 August, and from 12 noon until 6pm and 7pm until 1am on Saturday, 22 August.

Tickets are on sale now and are priced at £15 + booking fee per session or £40 + booking fee for a weekend pass, which includes all sessions.
