A NORTH Argyll island resort is set to expand its operation in a £1.4million move that will strengthen the area’s attraction as a tourism destination and create 15.5 full time equivalent jobs.

The Isle of Eriska Hotel is developing a destination day spa, after securing a £217,500 investment from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).

Says a spokesperson: “The spa, and associated leisure facilities, will be available to non−residents and the development will increase the non-seasonal aspects of the business and its employment opportunities. It will increase the hotel’s turnover and provide additional benefits for the local economy.”

Confirming the HIE contribution, Douglas Cowan, area manager for Argyll and the Islands, said: “We have worked with the Isle of Eriska Hotel for more than a decade. The business showcases some of the best hospitality that Scotland can offer and is a significant contributor to the area’s economy.

“I am very pleased we are able to help with its aspirations for further growth, which will help consolidate Argyll’s status as a destination of choice for discerning visitors.”

Set on a 300-acre island 14 miles north of Oban, the Isle of Eriska Hotel is a 25-bedroom, five-star resort and holder of a Michelin Star.

Development of the day spa will include the addition of a relaxation area, two further double treatment rooms with showers, and a lift to allow disabled access to all facilities. A dedicated reception area will provide retail opportunities for local artists and producers.

The plans include a restaurant with 50 indoor covers and a balcony with a further 50 outdoors. An open plan kitchen will provide opportunities for teaching and demonstrations as well as a retail area for showcasing local ingredients and suppliers.
