Media Release: Scottish electronics firm set for global growth

Scotland Electronics (International) Ltd (SEIL), Forres, Moray

A SCOTTISH electronics company is set to boost its global trade, create 20 new, high-quality jobs and increase its turnover to £30 million over the next three years.

Scotland Electronics (International) Ltd operates from an advanced manufacturing and testing facility in Forres in Moray; considered the only one of its kind in Scotland and one of only two in the UK.

The company designs, builds, tests and supports high-performance electronic products and solutions for use in harsh and challenging environments where accuracy and reliability are vital.

These include the oil and gas sector, defence and aerospace as well as industry and commerce.

Begins a spokesperson: “It is a highly-specialised global market and Scotland Electronics has very few competitors. Eighty per cent of its trade is international with core customers based in North America, mainland Europe, Scandinavia, and the Middle and Far East.

“The company has secured a £668,949 funding package from development agency, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), towards a £2 million accelerated growth programme that will consolidate its position as a world class harsh environment electronics and electro−mechanical specialist.

“Scotland Electronics’ business model ensures it is not dependent on any one industry therefore protecting it from a downturn in a particular sector.

“The continuing, increasing pressures and temperatures seen in the oil industry, means that many oil tools and equipment require upgrading. This is a high growth and lucrative market for Scotland Electronics and the company is already supporting customers with these needs.”

Confirming the HIE investment, Charlotte Wright, HIE director for business and sector development, said: “Scotland Electronics is an ambitious Scottish business looking to achieve further substantial growth over the next three years.

“This investment by the company will increase its turnover and international sales and create twenty good-quality, well-paid Scottish jobs.

“It will also enhance Scotland’s reputation for having many thriving sectors, including engineering, and the contribution these make to the country’s economy.

“I am very pleased we are able to support their accelerated growth plans and look forward to continuing to work with them to achieve their aims.”

Scotland Electronics is a major employer in Moray with 40 existing full time equivalent posts, including engineers and PhD graduates. The company promotes careers in sciences, technology, engineering and maths by working with a local college and schools.

Mike Ramsay, company founder and managing director of Scotland Electronics, said: “As a company we are exceptionally proud to be located in Moray, which has highly skilled personnel potentially available for employment to meet our growth aspirations.

“We have been working very closely with HIE for over a decade and are delighted to be recipients of these grants to ensure our future growth, which our customers expect.”
