Media Release: North-east farm store scoops highly commended at Scottish Rural Awards

Local Food Finalists 2011, Andrew and Debbie Booth

AN Aberdeenshire farm store and coffee shop has secured a prestigious award at this year’s Scottish Rural Awards.

The Store, based in Foveran, near Ellon, was awarded Highly Commended in the Scottish Rural Awards for Artisan Food during the reception at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, on Thursday 26 March.

The Artisan Food award recognises businesses which champion local food and produce, and support other local producers too.

The Store was one of six finalists in the largest category in the running for the award for its own home reared and butchered Aberdeen Angus beef.

Says a spokesperson: “The Scottish Rural Awards aim to protect and promote life in the countryside and to help it thrive and the awards are a celebration of rural life, produce and communities.”

The family-run farm and farm shop, which is managed by husband and wife team Andrew and Debbie Booth, believes in farm to fork and rears and butchers its Aberdeen Angus beef at its on-site butchery and farm, ensuring 100 per cent tracability of its meat. As a result of this, The Store has complete control of the produce, guarenteeing tracability and high quality products to its customers.

The Store owner and farmer, Andrew Booth, said: “We are delighted to come home with the Highly Commended award for our Aberdeen Angus beef and it was a great honor to be nominated and reach the finals of these prestigious awards in the food and drink sector.

“This award gives us the opportunity to reiterate the importance of buying local produce from farm to fork, which The Store prides itself on. We have an on-site butchery at the farm which allows us to ensure 100 per cent tracability of our Aberdeen Angus beef, which is something our customers highly appreciate.

“We also offer a wide range of food at the shop and nearly 90 per cent of the products we stock are sourced locally within 100 miles of the shop, and half of those are within 25 miles.”

The successful farm store and coffee shop, which was established in 2000, has its own on-site butchery, kitchen, coffee shop and farm, and is recognised for its passion for tracability of its products and use of local produce.

Based on the outskirts of Aberdeen, The Store is driven to deliver high-quality, local, natural produce to the customer that fits in with their lifestyle.

The Store is open seven days a week, from 10am-5pm and is only a ten-minute drive from Aberdeen. To find out more about The Store and their foodie nights and events, call 01358 788083 or visit www.thestorecompany.co.uk.
