ABERDEEN’S premier ice hockey club is playing host to an awards ball with a twist, to celebrate the achievements of its senior players and to raise awareness of its junior development programme.

The Aberdeen Lynx Ice Hockey Club, which has rapidly grown to be the second most-supported sports club in Aberdeen after Aberdeen Football Club, is once again collaborating with a prestigious entertainment company known for its quirky stunts once again for its annual awards ball.

The evening, which will take place on 23 May 2015 at the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa, has been organised by some of the volunteers on the club’s committee. The evening will consist of an awards ceremony, a three-course meal, an auction and raffle, entertainment and a disco.

Guests will be treated to high quality entertainment throughout the evening as leading corporate team building and entertainment company, Team Challenge Company, aim to try and top last year’s event after last years guest feedback hailed the evening as complete success.

All funds raised by the ball will go towards funding the development of the Lynx junior teams, which caters for over 90 kids. Ages of the players range from (Players’ ages range from) under 10’s to under 20’s, with children as young as three joining the sport.

Chair of the Aberdeen Lynx, Martin Hill, said: “Ice hockey is a huge sport in Aberdeen now, and we are delighted to be hosting our second awards ball to celebrate the clubs success.

“We’ve decided to partner up with Team Challenge Company again this year after they helped us produce a fantastic event last year. We are delighted to be working with such a renowned entertainment company, and look forward to experiencing the unique entertainment they will have in store for our guests this year.

“It’s extremely important for us to continuously develop the junior teams and being a not-for-profit organisation, it can be difficult to gather necessary funding, especially in the current business climate. The progression of our younger players will allow the team to develop and succeed, and we hope that the funds raised from the ball will help us develop the team and make our Aberdeen supporters proud.”

Stephen Hazley, director of Team Challenge Company, said: “We are thrilled to be returning to put on another great show for the guests at this year’s Lynx Ball. The club provides a fantastic opportunity for children who might not be into the traditional sports like football and rugby to get fit whilst learning a new skill.

“The talent some of these youngsters have is incredible and it is clear with the development of the junior teams, that the club will definitely continue to succeed.”

The club is also calling on fans to vote for who they deem as the best player of the 2014/15 Season by following the link: https://eSurv.org?u=AberdeenLynxPOTS2015.

Fans will have until Sunday 10 May 2015 to cast their votes and the winner of the award will be announced at the second Aberdeen Lynx Awards Ball on Saturday 23 May.

Tickets for the ball are priced at £40 for an individual ticket and £400 for a table of 10. The formal event will follow club colours and is themed “red, white and black”.
