Media Release: Boogie and Arlene’s ‘Superhero’ effort raises £27,000 for Cash For Kids

Boogie & Arlene Championship

- Funds will provide support for disadvantaged children in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife -

CASH for Kids ‘Superhero Day’ got off to an absolute flier today (Friday) with the news that Forth’s Boogie and Arlene had smashed their £20,000 fundraising target – raising £27,000.

The dynamic duo behind Forth’s award-winning local breakfast show – Boogie In The Morning – embarked on a 28-hour broadcasting marathon, inviting listeners to donate to the cause while they were on air.

The donations arrived thick and fast including almost £2,000 from Dundee United footballer and former Heart of Midlothian star, Ryan McGowan, and a further £1,250 from lottery winner and Hibernian fan Jane Park, both via Twitter.

That helped the final total tip £27,000.

A number of other innovative fundraising mechanisms came forward during the show, including:

  • Heart of Midlothian delivering the Scottish Championship trophy to the Forth studio, allowing fans to pose for a picture in exchange for a £10 donation
  • Boogie shaving his hair to the bone and Arlene dyeing hers (courtesy of Charlie Miller), encouraging text donations
  • Boogie broadcasting for an hour while doing a bicycle spin class for the duration

Boogie, host of Forth 1’s Boogie in the Morning breakfast show, said: “Cash for Kids ‘Superhero Day’ is a brilliant way for everyone to raise awareness and funds which will provide support for disadvantaged children in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife, as well as the whole of Scotland.

“Arlene and I were more than happy to do our bit in advance and it really was amazing to see the donations come in so quickly from our brilliant listeners.

“The gestures from Ryan McGowan and Jane Park were absolutely fantastic and we thank them for their hugely generous donations, as well as everyone else who is helping us on this charity broadcast marathon.

“Big thanks to Charlie Miller for his support too – even though he shaved my head!

“Superhero Day will push the fundraising total even further and ultimately that’s the most important thing, supporting local young people via Cash For Kids.

“On behalf of everyone at Forth, I’d like to thank each and every person who has made a donation. Please keep them coming!”

Cash for Kids Superhero Day is Bauer’s national fundraising campaign running in all 21 Cash for Kids sites, including Forth across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Supporters are asked to dress up, fundraise and donate today (Friday 15th May) with all the money raised staying in the local community within which it was raised.

What you choose to do can be as wacky as you want: from locking up your boss, holding a super quiz, a onesie day, or holding a superhero dress up day at your nursery or school.

You could even do a challenge and get sponsored by your family, work colleagues and friends. Whatever you do let Forth know!

The wackier your idea, the better and no contribution is too small – if we all work together we can make a huge difference!

If you don’t get dressed up, you can still support by texting ‘Hero’ to 64100 (texts are free and 100 per cent of the donation will go to Cash for Kids – you will be called to process your donation).
