Young Scottish Stars Stage Variety Spectacular for Christmas
The prestigious Dance School of Scotland, based at Knightswood Secondary School, is bringing an extravaganza of musical favourites to Glasgow as the talented Scottish students perform their Christmas showcase. Headline hits include excerpts from a variety of Broadway shows performed by the Dance School of Scotland Musical Theatre Course.
The Christmas programme is packed with some of the most loved musical theatre classics alongside modern numbers that will get the audience on their feet. The programme has been chosen to demonstrate the incredible talents of these young Scottish performers who study at Scotland’s only fully funded National centre of excellence for vocational dance and musical theatre
The evening performances will feature excerpts and highlights from musical shows both old and new as the pupils showcase their unique dance, drama and singing talents.
As the showcase was being developed pupils from the Dance Course were treated to a masterclass from Georgia Stitt, a very well known musical director on Broadway and wife of Jason Robert Brown. Georgia put the pupils through their paces and commented that the standard was “incredibly high and special”.
Tickets for the performances, Thursday 13 December to Monday 17 December at The James Arnott Theatre G12, have already sold out.
Ian Muchan, Headteacher of Knightswood Secondary School incorporating the Dance School of Scotland, said:
“The Dance School of Scotland helps develop some of the most talented young dance and musical theatre performers in the country. The Christmas performance is an opportunity to share these talents with a wider audience and demonstrate how the funding of the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council is preparing these pupils to take the industry by storm.”
Graham Dickie, Artistic Director of the Musical Theatre Course at the Dance School of Scotland, said:
“We have chosen a very diverse set of performances for our Christmas showcase to challenge the pupils and entertain the audience. The Dance School of Scotland prides itself on developing the talents of our student to produce true ‘triple-threat’ performers, this event will showcase their ability to dance, sing and act – often all at the same time.”
The Musical Theatre Course develops the pupils’ individual skills and potential in dance, drama and singing and provides the training needed to become a true ‘triple-threat’ performer.
Graduates from the Musical Theatre Course have gone on to some of the most prestigious performance colleges in the world, in 2007 pupils went on to study at colleges including The Arts Educational School (ArtsEd), a prestigious London on the Andrew Lloyd Webber scholarship, and the world famous Juilliard School in New York.
