Edinburgh Prepares for an InvAsian!
The Romans couldn’t do it, Edward Longshanks couldn’t do it but now Scotland is about to be conquered by a new “InvAsian”, and the whole country is invited to take part.
InvAsian, a new festival dedicated to Asian culture, music, dance, comedy, drama, film and art, will be part of the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and will showcase acts from Japan, Korea, India, Pakistan and China.
Audiences at InvAsian, running the course of the Edinburgh Festival calendar, can expect to see an Indian and Chinese Elvis, Korean Beatboy performances and traditional Indian dancing and singing.
Running from 3-25 August, the InvAsian Festival is the result of a partnership between clubWEST, an established production company that regularly takes part in the Fringe, and Tartan Silk Public Relations. InvAsian’s dedicated venue is the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s Quincentenary Hall.
“There is so much Asian talent worldwide and in the UK, that it just made perfect sense to bring it all together in one place,” says Kevin Williams of clubWEST, the production company who brought last year’s hit ‘The Ballerina who loved a B-Boy’ to the Festival.
“The RCSEd complex is the ideal venue for the Festival, with performances scheduled in all four performance spaces inside the magnificent Quincentenary Hall.”
“InvAsian is a celebration of Asia and its culture and what it has contributed to Scotland,” says Martin Hunt, Managing Director of Tartan Silk PR. “I hope everyone in Edinburgh and around Scotland will take part in the Festival’s three weeks of colourful, fun and vibrant cultural events.”
The Consul General for India, Mr Ramesh Chander, has also welcomed InvAsian, “The introduction of a festival, especially dedicated to Asia, is a welcome change which I am sure will draw appreciation, enthusiasm and encouragement from the multi-cultural society of Scotland. I wish the organisers of the Festival a great success.”
