For Better not Worse: Epilepsy Best Practice
Valentines Day 2008 is special because that’s when Epilepsy Scotland will tell the world about its best practice certificate. From this day forward we will take applications from staff and employers who want to apply for this special certificate for their company. It’s free and on offer to Scottish organisations who do the right things for employees with epilepsy.
Getting this certificate for your workplace shows the heartfelt desire and the legally binding requirement that all employers have to give support under the Disability Discrimination Act.
Even if no employee has epilepsy at the moment, you can still send for a best practice certificate if your organisation has policies and procedures in place for recruiting and supporting someone with this common neurological condition.
St Valentine is the patron saint for epilepsy as well as true love. During their lifetime, one in 130 people develop epilepsy. By displaying this certificate, your organisation raises awareness among the workforce and shows it is ready to help people who have or will develop epilepsy during their working life.
Simply tick and sign the checklist which proves you are following current disability legislation and a certificate will be posted to your organisation. Forms can be completed online at www.epilepsyscotland.org.uk or by calling our freephone helpline 0808 800 2200. Show someone you care and send in your application. This proposal will make your colleagues’ lives better, not worse.
