Super Food Flies into The Sheraton

Tartan Silk
11/02/2008
Region : Edinburgh/Lothian

We’ve all heard the buzz - super foods are the latest craze to sweep the nation this year. But do you know what they do and the best way to eat them? Or are you just confused by the chatter? All this is set to change at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, with the introduction of different dishes containing the best super foods around over the following year.

To kick off February, ‘Goji scones’ are being served.  These are made from the Goji berry, well- known for having the highest levels of any antioxidants on earth and with 500 times more Vitamin C by weight than oranges!  The berries are reported to assist with weight loss and have anti-aging properties.  The Goji berry has been heralded as the new wonder food and praised by both celebrities and nutritionists alike for its high nutritional value.

For chocoholics who are finding the struggle to resist temptation after Christmas all too difficult, The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa is pleased to offer a healthier alternative: a dark chocolate and beetroot cake.   Dark chocolate is recognised for its antioxidant properties while beetroot is both low calorie and full of flavenoids which are antioxidants which can help reverse the damage caused by free radicals.

Or for those who just want something to quench their thirst, there are a wide choice of healthy smoothies and infusions on offer in the Exchange and One Spa Café.  Included is a lemongrass and ginger water infusion, to cleanse the palate and the body.  This healthy drink is perfect for the winter season as it soothes the respiratory tract and may help cold and flu symptoms.  Also, for those who want a boost without resorting to coffee, there is the purple energy smoothie, which can help to stabilise blood sugar levels and provides an energy lift.

Everyone nowadays is well aware that eating well is good for both your health and sense of wellbeing.  Now, people can reap the maximum benefit with a treatment at One Spa followed by a refreshing drink, or even a bite to eat.

Malcolm Webster, Head Chef, comments:

“Superfoods are a hot topic in culinary and health circles and we wanted our guests to reap the benefits by introducing a range of dishes, smoothies and infusions designed around these amazing natural foods.  Our dishes are available throughout 2008 so everyone can benefit all year round, not just in February!”
