French Cuisine Showcase and Organic French Wine Tasting Evening at Cookie

French Cuisine Showcase and Organic French Wine Tasting Evening at Cookie

Cookie, the multi-faceted eatery, deli and shop in Strathbungo on Glasgow’s southside, is showcasing the French culinary training of its head chef Iain Walker at an organic French wine tasting evening in association with Villiers Wine Imports at 5.30-6pm on Wednesday 10th February.

As part of its mandate to offer a better quality of life to the local community through the promotion of healthy eating initiatives, Cookie is preparing a special French-flavoured six course menu leading guests through a complementary selection of organic French wines, predominantly from the Bourgogne region and other select regions throughout France.

Domenico del Priore, co-founder of Cookie, said, “Having achieved the Academy of Culinary Arts Award of Excellence in 2006, Iain Walker learned his craft from some of the best in the catering sector and has worked in many of Scotland’s finest dining establishments. He has a love for French cooking which this special event will allow him to showcase with a special six course menu.

“The tasting menu makes the connection between food and wine and how each complements the other and we will present ideas of culinary association, which is fundamental to the experience.

“Furthermore, the presentation from Jon Paul Fleming of Villiers Wine Imports will go beyond the usual tasting notes as he explains the process behind the production of organic wine. In so doing, Jon Paul will give a better picture of the whole wine making process, such as the differences that the position of a vine gains from its position on a slope.”

The presentation has been designed to appeal to both novices and wine connoisseurs.

With a focus on seasonal food and local produce made available at an accessible price, Cookie seeks to break down the barriers between food production, distribution, preparation and consumption.

A platform for local and national healthy eating programmes such as Epode and ‘Lets get cooking’ and an active supporter of responsible drinking and community education, Cookie is also a cooking club. Customers can rent out Cookie for a whole host of occasions and cook for themselves, their friends or community group.

Villiers Wine Imports supplies Scotland and the UK with exclusive natural and organic wine direct from its own vineyard and selective vineyards throughout France and Europe. The majority of these vineyards are small, independent, family-run businesses. All its wines are certified organic, with many of the grapes being grown biodynamically. By employing these methods, the growers harmonise the rhythm of the vine with its capacity to bear fruit, which ultimately means maximising capacity while minimising the impact on the soil.
