Tour ’67 Rocks Into Gloucestershire
The groundbreaking Tour ’67 exhibition will be in Gloucestershire from 28 April – 10 May, before embarking on its first European tour. The showcase will be held at the Compton Cassey Galley fresh from a successful debut in Edinburgh. Artwork from the biggest names in rock history such as John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Ringo Starr and Ronnie Wood will be showcased together for the first time. Additionally, the exhibition incorporates images by rock photographer Robert Knight and illustrator Klaus Voormann, famous for designing the cover the Beatles’ album Revolver.
Voormann also played bass guitar in The Plastic Ono Band, on John Lennon’s "Imagine" Album, George Harrison’s "All Things Must Pass" and with many others prominent names in music. He was regarded as the fifth Beatle in the Hamburg days and the exhibition will showcase originals of his work. Additionally featured are works by Janis Joplin and Grace Slick, previously unseen in Europe.
Jonathan Poole, the exhibition organiser, comments:
“Tour ’67 is a unique exhibition as it brings together a varied selection of works by renowned names from the world of art and music, for the first time. It feels to me particularly fitting that it will be exhibited at my gallery- the place where it all started- before departing for its European Tour.”
Over 40 years on from the culturally defining event of Woodstock, Tour ‘67 gives modern audiences the rare opportunity to tap into the often unseen side of these rock legends and experience the ‘60’s for themselves.
